These two volumes prepared by Frede Jensen are designed to teach Old French by explaining fully every word and structure as they arise. The first five verses of Alexis, for example, require 17 pages to explain, but the last five verses require only one page since virtually everything has already been explained. Facing translations into English help comprehension of the texts. Saint Eustace dates from around 1250 and is easier than the 11th-century Saint Alexis.
